In order to become a professional architect, most states require that you become a registered and licensed architect through their state registration board. In order to get your license, most state registration boards require the applicant to have graduated from an officially accredited architecture program. There are 114 schools that offer the proper accreditation through their architectural courses and programs. This accreditation is monitored through the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
The NAAB, found at www.naab.org , is the only national agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in architecture. Therefore, it is imperative that you choose an official NAAB-accredited architectural program. Their website lists the NAAB Accredited Programs in Architecture.
You can earn architectural degrees ranging from the Bachelor of Architecture degree, to a Master of Architecture degree, to a Doctor of Architecture PhD degree. There are colleges and universities that offer architectural programs, or there are specific architectural colleges that specialize in architecture. Whatever your choice, there are a few things to take into account when choosing your architecture education.
