Whether you want to be a criminologist or criminal psychologist, it is going to take some advanced schooling to get there.
Criminologist. A true criminologist is mostly involved in teaching and research, working in universities to teach criminology, legal studies, law and sociology, while also conducting research on their own. Federal, state, and private parties such as law firms may employ or contract criminologists to research and study specific criminal matters. A criminologist will need to complete at least a two-year master's degree in criminology, while many go on to earn a PhD doctorate degree in criminology.
